ARCHIVE- JULY 2001 Monday 30 July. 2001- New rankings and tour details just out By Ljubisa Bojic Ranking section is updated. After Sopot tournament Jelena is up on WTA tour for one place from 21st to 20th with 1441.00 points, but she will soon enter top 15en because she needs just 49 points that she could get in her next tournament. In doubles she is ranked 19tn and that's her highest ranking ever. At Acura classic opening round singles competition, Dokic will face winner of the match between Janette HusarovaPatricia Tarabini of Argentina and they will play against Tina Krizan (SLO) and Nicole Pratt (AUS).
Sunday 29 July. 2001- Acura Classic, San Diego, USA next on JD schedule By Ljubisa Bojic As a preparation USA open period comes underway, Dokic will make her best game in San Diego where some of the top players have been committed to play. Jenifer Capriati, Martina Hingis, Monica Selez, Anna Kournikova, Shaughnessy, Dementieva, Tauziat, V.Williams, Davenport, Schett, and Clijsters are all included in great spectacle pack for spectators at San Diego's hot sun. Schedule section is updated with info on Acura Tennis Classic which will be held from 30 July to August 5th. That's tier2a high class tournament on hard surface located in San Diego, CA, USA. So every single player has hard draw. Jelena received bye in opening round and in the third round she can meet kid Jennifer Capriati who is best player in year 2001 so far. Than, afterwards there is Monica Selez herself. But we all know Jelena can do that. Quick remind on few facts of pre-USA open period until now, from just updated results section. After Wimbledon Jelena went to Vienna to play at the UNQA grand prix tournament. In opening round, she was defeated by Chaldakova. In a doubles she went all the way to semi-finales where she and her doubles partner Silvia Farina were defeated. Afterwards Jeca headed to Sopot, Poland where she played some very good matches and got to the singles semi-finales. She did not have luck in doubles. Saturday 28 July. 2001- Bad day in Sopot for Dokic By Ljubisa Bojic I taught Jelena will play against the defending champion Anke Huber. Probably it would be easy. Gala Leon Garcia of Spein defeated Huber 6:3 7:5. Also at today match, she managed to overcome Jelena Dokic who did not make her normal rhythm during the game. It was 3-6, 5-7. She went all the way to the semi-finales which is good. But, Jelena could do better. Tomorrow I shall tell you something more about her next tournament at Acura Classic in USA. and more brand new photos click here Sunday 22 July. 2001- Both Jelena and Kim are out off the Sanex trophy in Belgium By Ljubisa Bojic Today at the sanex trophy center court about 2:30 PM, Jelena will not play in doubles finale match. But also, Kim Clijsters will not be there. Jelena Dokic and Farina- Elia were beaten by Dragomir-Ilie and Vanc with result 7-5, 6-1. So in the finals, Dragomir-Ilie/Vanc will face Pascual/Serna winners of other semi-finale match. In singles competition finales
In the mid-time here is the topic to discus about on the message board. I think Vicky Botwright want to make career not related to squash. The 23-year-old was refused permission to wear a thong and bikini top on court by her players' governing body. She had planned to wear the revealing gear in yesterday's British Open second round match against No.5 seed Natalie Grainger at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. The pictures published yesterday provoked a furious response from the Women's International Squash Players Association. WISPA director Andrew Shelley said: "We are delighted to see increased coverage for women's squash but we do not wish to see our members to be exploited in any way." This brought WISPA into direct confrontation with tournament promoters The Eye Group. The London-based TV production company have revolutionised the coverage of the game, surrounding the all-glass court with eight cameras and developing live broadcasts on Sky TV for the first time. Eye Group managing director Paul Smith said: "The views expressed by WISPA are a backward step for the sport. "We are doing everything we can to promote the game to a wider audience but the players' governing body is holding the sport back with its antiquated views. I know that the players want the freedom to wear lighter and more comfortable clothes on court and if that means their outfits are more revealing then so be it. The squash girls are just as attractive and glamorous as the tennis girls and the world is waking up to that fact." Botwright, 23, wore a silver-grey outfit on court today but lost in straight games to Grainger, the former Nottingham-based player who now lives in America. Grainger sported a white skirt and slinky grey top. Grainger now meets England captain Linda Charman in the quarter-finals. Paul Smith went live on local BBC radio tonight to defend his stance on the affair. On the Radio WM Drive Time show Paul was interviewed by husband and wife presenters Tony Wadsworth and Julie Mayer. Julie gave him something of an interrogation. She pursued a rather aggressive line of questioning verging on accusations of exploitation, but Paul stood up for his stance, stressing the importance of moving the game forward. Friday 20 July. 2001- Wining in doubles should be great practice for Poland By Ljubisa Bojic Great news as Second seeded Jelena Dokic and Silvia Farina-Elia defeated Elena Daniilidou and Caroline Dhenin with a result 7-5, 6-2 in Belgium tournament yesterday. Thursday news from Knokke-Heist, Belgium- Top seed Kim Clijsters of Belgium cruised into the quarterfinals of the $150,000 Sanex Trophy. Rosanna de los Rios of Paraguay knocked off Farina Elia, 6-3, 6-1, and Clijsters rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Virginia Ruano-Pascual of Spain on Thursday.

Tuesday17 July. 2001- Jelena has been surprisingly upset by Chladkova Ljubisa Bojic In the opening round of Sanex trophy in Belgium, 3rd seeded Jelena was beaten by 22-year-old Chech Denisa Chladkova ranked 43 in WTA tour. Dokic lost in straight sets, 4-6, 2-6 at 4th match on the center Court yesterday . That is her second defeat after second round upset in Vienna by Kosanic. Dokic will play doubles with Silvia Farina Elia of Italy at this tournament for the first time . After that, she will maybe rest herself in USA and interrupt her busy schedule strategy. Friday 13 July. 2001- This time Jelena did not have enough concentration By Ljubisa Bojic Now we can say rain was deciding factor in the match. First rain interruption caused concentration slip of Jeca. Second interruption caused total100%-loss of her concentration. Twice interrupted match does not finish good for Jelena. That is Tuesday and Wednesday story of center court in Vienna. Dokic was beaten by 20-year-old Kosanic 6-1, 6-7, 6-0. Third set played yesterday lasted 15 minutes. Second surprise of
UNQA grand prix is Elena Dementieva who was ousted by Iroda Jelena quoted: "I had problem with my service and was playing defensive game" Update in schedule section. Jelena's next tournament Sanex Trophy is from 16 to 22 July and will be held in Knokke-Heist, Belgium. It will be played on red clay. Thursday 12 July. 2001- Dokic - Kosanic match was interrupted and should resume today By Ljubisa Bojic This time it was the rain that helped Jelena, I hope. Why??? Kosanic was ahead Jelena 2-0 in the third set when the rain started. In the first set, everything was going well for Dokic as she won 6-1. In the second set, when she was ahead 3-2, the rain started and destroyed Dokic concentration, therefore afterwards when the second set was resumed it was finished with 7-6 for Kosanic. The third set, as I said, was interrupted when Kosanic was ahead by 2-0. I taught this would be an easy match, but it was not.. Maybe, Jelena is too relaxed because she received bye in the first round. Fortunately she has a chance to sort the problem out. I hope I will be able to provide new Jelena photos in next few days. Wednesday 11 July. 2001- Today first Jelena's singles match in Austria should be easy job By Ljubisa Bojic Twenty year old Jelena Kosanic qualifier from Croatia made surprise by winning local wildcard Nicole Remis 6-3, 6-2. In a second round, she will face Jelena today on center court at 6 PM Vienna time. Dokic/Dementieva defeated Bachmann/Dyrberg 6-1,6-2 in a doubles match which was played yesterday and will face first-seeded Suarez/Tarabin next however there are no official reports on that mach due errors on UNQA grand prix official web site. 5' 6 1/4" (1.68 m) Tuesday 10 July. 2001- Dokic is down on WTA tour list By Ljubisa Bojic We shall monitor Jelena's game as she is playing her first match today on UNQA grand prix. Elena Dementieva will be Jelena's doubles partner for this tournament. I updated rankings today and Jelena is down from number 16 to 23 on WTA Tour. But she is on the 20th place in doubles and that is her best doubles ranking so far. This downfall in singles rankings can be explained by the fact that she did not make to the semi-finales in Wimbledon like it was last year. prix tournament, tennis superstar Dokic will face a winner of the mach
between local wildcard Nicole Remis or qualifier. Jeca received bye in
the first round. We hope the tournament is so far relaxing for Dokic and
that she enjoys in beauties of Vienna. I am sure she needs rest after
Wimbledon. In the finish of man semi - finales that were too long (Three days) because of rain delays, Croatian wild card Goran Ivanisevic beat Briton Tim Henman. These days on the gates of All England Club experienced many people cueing for tickets so desperate. But Britons like to cue, isn't it. Three times 26-year-old from London has made semi-finales, three times has he failed. Hopes of entire nation vanished as he lost this long-service based match.
"In a two-horse race, it's the same for both of you. I certainly don't feel like it affected me. I felt I dealt with it as best I could. You know, I had to come out here and just keep trying to play the way I did. Because, you know, if I look at the match, analyze what happened, you know, I lost my serve twice in a five-set match. You know, that's why I certainly give him a lot of credit." Goran quoted:
"This year was a lot more dificult to win than last year when I was like a deer in headlights. I just kept going" said Williams, "This year it was lot harder and I had to think"

Sunday 8 July. 2001- Some details of UNQA Grand Prix 2001 tournament By Ljubisa Bojic Today and tomorrow there are some qualification matches in Vienna. Dokic should probably play on Tuesday. As soon as I found out who she will play against, I shall let you know. UNQA Tournament ends next Sunday. Jelena is 2nd seeded. As I previously wrote, we may expect Jelena to win this tournament and therefore make some psychological background for US open and some other big tournaments. Players are seeded this way:
Saturday 7 July. 2001- Men semi-finales showed some quality tennis as Jeca prepares her self for Vienna tournament By Ljubisa Bojic Early yesterday I had live report
from my friend in London. Three hours before start of first gentleman
semi-finales match there have been some big thunderstorms. Actually we
taught big spectacle would be delayed until tomorrow. I thought - what
is Wimbledon without the rain. What is Wimbledon without of magic- Sun
was surprisingly shining just before the first match. It was pretty equal game between
Andre Agassi(USA) and Patrick Rafter(AUS) in the center court which was
too small for people who wanted to watch the game. Agassi had some good
moving on the court and Rafter made good services and aces but was bad
at the net. I think Aussie, who has done his best to be in finales
of The Championatchip, possessed momentum as deciding factor in the 5th
set of the match. At the end, the finale result was 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2,
8-6. Second match between Tim Henman (ENG) against Goran Ivanisevic (CRO) with result 5-7, 7-6, 6-0, 2-1 was interrupted by rain. Most important part of the game for both players was service. Before the match, people have talked around that Ivanisevic will attack with strong service preferably with many aces. It looks like Henman was not deaf on that and prepared best strategy- attack is the best defense- and it was just like that. It paid off, this and the home crowd was enough to be ahead of Ivanisevic when the rain started. Ivanisevic quoted few days ago: “I am awake, very awake now. Now I’m in the semis which is like a dream. Never been happier in my life”. Prepare popcorns, beer, or some

6 July. 2001- Two
great matches wowed crowd in Wimbledon center court yesterday
By Ljubisa Bojic As I expected,
defending champion Venus Wiliams of States made a terrific battle over
Linsday Davenport (the final result 6-2, 6-7 (1-7) 6-1. Williams is on
top of her career, both in fit and concentration at the moment, and
there is no player who could stop her. Williams dominated the first and
third sets of the replay of last years all American final and wasted a
match point in the 10th game of the second set. All credits
should be given to Jelena who made fantastic resistance but did not
survive a mid-match crisis to beat Davenport in 4th round of
Wimbledon. Williams-Linsday battle was better compared to the battle in
other semi-finales match that has been also played on center court. That
match played between
Justine Henin
and Jenifer Capriati resulted in 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Overconfident American
star Capriati did not proceed to the finales of The Championships;
however, we predict that Kid Capriati will have her last word in
upcoming Grand Slams and therefore make her dream come true to be a
winner of four Grand Slams in next year and become the best tennis

Wednesday 4 July. 2001- Doubles match will be continued today By Ljubisa Bojic The 4th match in doubles on the court 2 was interrupted because of dark when Jeca and her partner Conchita Martinez played yesterday against 9th seeded pair Kim Clijsters (Belgium) and Ai Sugiyama (Japan); the result was at that time 2:6, 7:5, 2:4. Wednesday 4 July. 2001- Jelena did new promoting camping By Ljubisa Bojic I found out that Jelena did a promoting campaign for one hotel in Italy. Hallo magazine made a special report on that. http://www.hellomagazine.com/specials/tenistas/index.html There's no better place to catch up with three of the world's most beautiful tennis players than the Hotel Hassler Villa Medici in Rome. Privately owned by Roberto Wirth, the hotel's walls are graced with paintings of the High Renaissance and its Golden Book of guests bears the names of kings, queens, presidents and Hollywood stars. Then here is what Jelena says: Jelena, 18, loves shopping but tennis leaves
little time so she has it down to a fine art. "I ask around for the
best shopping street which has brands such as Prada and Gucci - I buy
what I like at that moment, Armani, Chanel or an unknown name." Her
beauty attracts much attention, though she isn't a slave to her image,
saying, "I'm bored of my long hair so I'm thinking of cutting it
off." Jelena, who is sponsored by Fila, enjoys modeling but says:
"Acting would be more fun. If the offer was right I'd love to be in
a movie one day." Tuesday 3 July. 2001- Jelena is out of Wimbledon By Ljubisa Bojic Her match against Davenport was 75 minutes long and the final result was 7-5, 6-4. In the current year of 2001, Jelena has faced many tennis players, which have been on the top of their career such as Venus Wiliams, Kim Kilijsters, and now Linsday Davenport. These have been the hardest opponents then. She is maybe unlucky at draws but she improved her game a lot since Aussie open 2001. The psychological barrier concerning Linsday have not been crossed by Jelena. Now she has negative record of 3 lost games against Davenport. Here are some stats from last match:

Monday 2 July. 2001- Great match and Jelena is on road to the finales of Wimbledon By Ljubisa Bojic Fantastic 65 minute match against Barbara Schett with 6:3, 7:5 result as Jelena will face 3rd seeded American Linsdey Davenport in 4 round of Jelena's adored Wimbledon tournament. That will be real challenge and maybe the hardest match in the whole tournament for Jelena that have been defeated by Linsday two times before (Australian open 2001 and Wimbledon 2000). cruised to semi-finales with 6-3, 6-3 victory over Diaz-Oliva M. Other quarterfinal

concentrate for the singles matches. Jelena was showing ubnormal
superiority and wish to win from the start of the second round match

After the first set, Jelena strike even more finishing second set with 6
games to 2. Reportedly Dokic
charmed number of journalists on the press conference and crowd was
crazy for her.

have interrupted match because of rain for
several minutes. Tennis player Dokic has proven today, that she is
serious candidate for victory in Sopot competition. After
yesterday's pretty weather, today it is rain here in Sopot, therefore theory
has been proven. Jelena is fallowed by rain from Rome open when she won
her first singles title. But big barrier have been destroyed today.
JD has won first set simply, but we were scared for her if she will be
able to

days ago, I updated ranking section. Everything is so surprising these
days but here we have good news. Jelena is up is WTA tour list for few
places; she is 22th now and will probably enter top 20 in next week. If
everything goes well, Dokic will play some good and hopefully winning
matches in nine days Prokom open, Sopot, Poland starting from 21. July
to 29 July. Money prize is 180000 USD and winner (for example Jelena)
gets 27000 USD. The tournament will be played on red clay.

in three set match with final result 4:6, 6:0, 6:7. Match lasted 2:25
hours. 
News
are frequently coming to our news department but this is probably last
one from Wimbledon. The man of the moment is certainly Goran Ivanisevic
who defeated Patrick Rafter in five set match 6-3 3-6 6-3 2-6 9-7. Great
number of both Australian and Croatian fans, which had a lot influence
on the game, made fantastic atmosphere on the center court. Ivanisevic
said:
"Actually,
if you look, every time who start to serve first in all four sets won
the set. So I was scared. I said to myself, "You have to win that
game at 5-2, and then you start to serve first, you going to win the
fifth set." When I lost, I say, "Man, is going to start to
serve first, maybe I going to lose now."
"It
is disappointing. You know, in the circumstances, it feels like it's
been a pretty long three days. But it's certainly been the same for both
of us.
You
know, like I said, if somebody one month ago told me, "Here is the
paper to sign that you going to be in the final of Wimbledon, but you
have to lose," I say, "Give me the paper, I sign."
Venus
Williams of United States retained her Wimbledon women's singles title
yesterday. Justine Henin was beaten by Williams in another three-sets
center court thriller with result 1-6, 6-3, 0-6. Williams survived
